The Town of Medley was incorporated in 1949 and now occupies eight square miles in northwest Miami-Dade County.
Medley has a Utilities Department which installs and maintains water and sewer lines, along with a Storm Water Utility, and a Public Works Department that maintains roads, collects and removes solid waste in addition to other duties.
The town also has a building & zoning inspector, plumbing inspector, electrical inspector, and a Code Enforcement Department which work in conjunction to enforce state-mandated codes including Uniform Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, Fire and National Electrical Codes, as well as Town of Medley ordinances and State of Florida statutes.
A Parks and Recreation Department oversees town activities and programs.
The town's Police Department consist of a chief, 34 sworn officers and six civilians. One of the aspects that make Medley police one of the finest is its quick response time to emergencies.
Residents who are disabled or sick at home are given a "Feel Safe" alarm to wear and if help is required, they need only to push a button and a police officer will respond within minutes.
Medley also has a state-of-the-art Regional Firearms Training Center, consisting of three firing ranges and a SWAT tower. The center also offers classroom facilities, vending areas and covered patios. It is available to all municipal, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
Medley's location is convenient to all types of transportation- just three miles norhtwest of Miami International Airport and about six miles southwest of Opa-locka Executive Airport. Nearby major roadways include the Homestead extension of the Florida Turnpike, the Palmetto Expressway, U.S. Route 27, and the northwest 74th Street connector to and from Hialeah.
The FEC railroad freight line plays a vital role in the business community by serving many Medley businesses along its tracks. Recent additions are the Metro-Dade Transit system which supplements the Metro-Dade bus system, and the newly constructed Palmetto Metrorail Station.
Three major country clubs/golf courses are located within minutes of Medley: The city of Miami Springs Country Club which is five miles away, the famous Doral Country Club is about four miles away, and the Miami Lakes Country Club is located just four miles away.
The Town of Medley attracts both small and large businesses. In conjunction with local businesses, Medley has an employment program where a business can call Town Hall with a job opening and it is placed on a list that is made available to the general public.
